Creating Content For Digital Inclusion

Did you know there are over a billion internet users with a disability or other impairment? In order to reach this audience and expand your businesses reach, Facebook has provided some basic tips for digital inclusion.

Making your Facebook and Instagram content accessible to people of all capabilities ensures your message is seen or heard equally online.

Here are some items to consider during the creation of your content:

Simple Language – Use simple and easy to follow sentence structure for your written content. Avoid using all capitals as it can be more difficult for those with cognitive and learning disabilities.

Hashtags – Capitalize each word in a string following a hashtag; for instance, #FriendswoodDevelopmentCompany. CamelCase, as it is referred to, is easier for a screenreader used by visually impaired.

Emoji – Picture emojis have matching text that can be picked up by a screen reader. Avoid emoticons that use text “_(“/)_/“) as they are harder to decipher.

Color – Avoid placing text over pictures and instead place text on a high-contrast background.

Photos – Use alt text for photos to provide a brief description. Visually impaired individuals can utilize the screen reader to describe the image to them.

Animated GIFs – Strobing and flashing content can make it difficult to focus for people with cognitive and learning difficulties. Consider animated GIFs that flash no more than 3 times per second and last no longer than 5 seconds.

Audio and videos– Consider using text transcript for those with hearing impairments. This can also be beneficial for those watching in a noisy environment or where they can not turn on audio.

We hope this information assists you in creating accessible content for all of your current and potential followers.

How to Wrangle the Facebook Algorithm in 2020

Hootsuite has provided marketers with some Facebook insights for 2020 that should be considered in all client strategies. Since Facebook is determined to position themselves as a transparent platform for its users, they have added a feature called, “Why Am I Seeing This,” for users to understand why a certain advertisement or post is being shown to them. The emphasis on transparency has affected what users see on their News Feed from brands because the algorithm is based on the following factors:

Engagement
Brands and businesses look forward to reactions and comments on their posts from users because they provide important feedback needed to determine how and what to share with their audiences. The more users engage with a certain post, the longer it stays on their News Feed and it is more likely to show up on their friends’ feeds as well. Once Facebook determines what a user is interested in, they will share content from related brands and businesses as a way to ensure a user is seeing content that they want to see.

Type of Content
Facebook prioritizes trending content. Video content, especially those longer than 3 minutes, has become increasingly popular on social media. Therefore, brands and businesses that post video content will show up more frequently on News Feeds.

Frequency of Posts
Consistency is important because it determines how active a brand is on social media. Facebook wants to focus on brands and businesses that they know are determined to connect with their audiences. The platform will prioritize content from brands that are more active on Facebook.

What Businesses Should Do

Create Videos and Utilize the Live Function
This can be a game changer for brands especially if the videos convey useful information. Videos automatically play when a user scrolls to it on their feed, which is why the content of the video is essential. The longer a user stays on a video, the better the post will rank on Facebook’s algorithm. Facebook will prioritize Live video content as well as a way to incentivize brands to move towards this feature.

Start Conversations
Posts that are able to spark conversations will be considered high quality. Engagements like ongoing conversations are the best way to organically “boost” posts. The more engagements there are, the longer the post will stay at the top of the audience’s News Feed.

Use Groups
Facebook wants to promote businesses that have cultivated a genuine connection with their audiences. The Groups feature allows users to join a group that revolves around subjects that they are interested in, which in turn promotes user-generated content.

“Boost” Your Organic Posts
Boosting Facebook posts is a great way to attract new users to business pages. Facebook provides information on which organic posts are generating an ample amount of traffic. Brands and businesses can then decide whether to further promote those posts. This feature ensures a boosted post’s success due to its preexisting success through organic social media.

Our team understands that digital marketing changes every day. Crescere Digital is determined to research and understand these changes as they pertain to each client. Our goal is to ensure your message finds its way to the right audience. Contact us today to find out how Crescere Digital can help your business.

Why Should Businesses Use Pinterest

Pinterest is known as the platform for inspiration. Although it is wildly popular for home decor and fashion, brands across all industries can benefit from an active Pinterest account. The platform has been quietly growing for some time and has surpassed the growth of other social media platforms for 2019. This is the perfect time for businesses to implement Pinterest into their marketing strategies.

Access to Millions of Active Users
Brands and businesses using Pinterest will have access to more than “335 million total active users” on the platform. Businesses can take advantage of the growing number of users by posting appealing photos of their products to their Pinterest accounts. The goal is to become a source of inspiration for Pinterest users.

Product Discovery and Purchase Ability
Users typically know what they are looking for before visiting Pinterest for inspiration. The platform offers in-stream purchasing to provide users with a one-stop shop environment. If users can find the exact product they are looking for, there is a very likely chance that they will purchase the product. Businesses can benefit from this feature by optimizing the search terms of their pins. Pinterest can become another source of revenue if businesses can provide exactly what users are searching for.

Growth
Pinterest has experienced exponential growth in users and revenue. By utilizing trending social platforms, brands can appeal to the existing users as well as the increasing number of new users. Due to its continuous growth, Pinterest is a platform that offers a tremendous opportunity for your business!

Crescere Digital is committed to providing clients with the most up-to-date services by understanding the latest trends in digital marketing and social media.
